If you plan on travelling anywhere abroad, even for a single day in the United States, you should acquire the best travel insurance before you leave Canada. Why? If you fall ill or are injured abroad, Quebec’s Health Insurance Plan only covers a fraction of the costs or not at all. Possibly leaving you with tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of dollars in debt.
Quebecker's should also get travel insurance when they leave their home province, even if they stay in Canada. Reimbursement of emergency medical expenses is limited to the provincial Health Insurance Plan when they are in another province.

INSURANCE FOR VISITORS IN CANADA OR SUPER VISA
To facilitate family reunification, “Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada” has created a super visa for parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents.
If you have parents or grandparents who live abroad and you would like for them to come and visit you in Canada to:

spend time with them,
-
introduce their grandchildren,
-
participate in your wedding,
-
be present at the birth of a baby, etc.
They must obtain a super visa from the Canadian government. To be eligible for the Super Visa, cardholders must provide proof of medical insurance in Canada for a minimum of one year (365 days) and a coverage of at least $100,000*.
To qualify for the Super Visa, the person must follow the following steps:

Be the parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident

Have a letter signed by the person inviting them to Canada and containing the following information:

A promise of financial support for the duration of his visit

A list of people who live with the person who invites them
-
A copy of proof of Canadian citizenship or permanent residence of the person inviting them
3. Get Canadian Medical Insurance for a Super Visa that:

Allows a member of your family to qualify until age 85

Is valid for at least one year from the date of arrival in Canada

Offers a minimum protection of $100,000
-
Has been paid (you will need to provide proof of payment)
